What is Naturalization?
As our cities more and more become concrete jungles many people are seeking new ways to reverse this trend. Individuals, grassroot groups and governments have been involved in numerous ways to reduce the impact of population growth and urbanization on the environment. These groups may be involved in projects to reduce city-waste, use renewable energy, encourage public transportation or consume locally grown food for example. Many individuals, community groups, and governments have decided to help the environment by being involved in the naturalization of greenspace.Naturalization means planting and designing green space using "Mother Nature's" principles. This involves introducing indigenous species in efforts to rehabilitate or restore environments. Areas within an urban are recreated or rehabilitated to resemble the natural environments that occurred in the region before things were built over it and European plant species took over and choked off indigenous ones.
